Meet the Pro

Steve Gonsalves has been the Head Professional at the Basin Harbor Club since 1999.  Prior to coming to Basin Harbor, Steve spent several years as an Assistant Professional at the Burlington Country Club.  His first Head Professional position was at the Windham Golf Club at Tater Hill in 1998.  He served as Tournament Chairman for the VPGA from 2001 - 2003.  For the past two winters, Steve has been the Head Professional at Admirals Cove at Golf Village in Jupiter, Florida.

About the Course

The Basin Harbor Club Golf Course is well manicured and quite demanding. Situated in the Champlain Valley, the terrain is relatively flat with gently rolling low hills. The short front nine (3054 yards from the blue tees) offers a variety of challenging shots. The longer back nine (3459 yards) is spacious and offers more difficulty to the long ball hitter. The course and slope ratings are 71.5 and 122.

The first nine holes were laid out in 1927 by Allen Beach, nephew of the resort’s founder. In 1935, Alex Campbell added bunkers and improved the course. Robert Mitchell designed the back nine in 1950. In 1980 Geoffrey Cornish reworked the entire course adding four ponds, several bunkers, and many trees. The course has small to medium greens contoured fairways and 48 bunkers.

The turf on greens and fairways is bent grass. Tees are bent and bluegrass. Roughs consist of bluegrass, fescue and rye.
