Jeff Hadley Day
Green Mountain National Golf Course
May 31, 2005

As most of you know by now, Vermont PGA Member and Green Mountain National Golf Course Head Professional Jeff Hadley has been diagnosed with ALS. Jeff is doing well and is back in Vermont for the summer.  Jeff spent much of the winter in Florida.  He played quite a bit of golf and enjoyed the warm weather.

Most of Jeff’s symptoms at the present are concentrated in his right leg and he has been fitted with a brace, which will help take the strain off of that leg. Jeff is also undergoing some experimental treatments and participating in some research, which hopefully, will help in the efforts to understand and find a cure for this terrible disease. Jeff will continue as the Head Golf Professional at Green Mountain National Golf Course and be an active VPGA member. Jeff and his wife Alice are incurring a great deal of medical and prescription expenses. The Jeff Hadley Day detailed below will help them offset some of these expenses, educate all of us about ALS and raise some money to help the research efforts of those working to find a cure for this disease.

We are organizing a fun day of golf, prizes, food and maybe a couple of beers (all of these rank highly on Jeff’s “to do” list) to honor, toast and roast our buddy. The event will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2005. That is the day after Memorial Day and will take the place of a regular VPGA pro-am; however, this will not be an official VPGA event. Depending on the number of amateurs that sign up, we will have a double shotgun. The format will be a 5-person scramble with 1 professional on each team. We will use a modified version of the Buick Scramble formula to handicap the teams. We know of many amateurs from the Killington and Stowe areas that want to participate. We will make up the teams honoring as many requests as possible. The committee will assign professionals to the teams with some of the pros playing in both shotguns. Awards will be given out following each shotgun with a dinner and events being held after the PM shotgun at the Summit Lodge.

We will have at least 40 rounds of golf for foursomes including cart. We will sell as many raffle tickets at $150 as we have rounds. Everyone who buys a ticket will win a foursome at a course determined by a drawing. Many times 4 players get together and buy a ticket, the luck of the draw will determine which course they get to play.

Amateurs - The entry fee will be $100. We will also have several raffles and silent auction items to bid on.

The Committee - The Committee will recruit the players, secure prizes and raffle prizes from golf manufacturers, obtain silent auction items, and recruit hole sponsorships from individuals, groups and businesses.

Please address questions, comments, suggestions, donations or requests for entry forms to:

Meet the Pro

Jeff Hadley has been the Head Professional at Green Mountain National Golf Course ever since it opened in 1996.  Prior to coming to Green Mountain, Jeff was the Head Professional at Stowe Country Club in Stowe, VT and Birchwood Country Club in Westport, CT.  He graduated from Rollins College in Florida with a B.A. in Economics and co-captained the golf team his senior year.  The team finished 3rd in the NCAA Division II in 1976.  Amateur highlights include winning the Apawamus Club Championship (Rye, NY) at the age of 15.  He was also the Metropolitan Boys Champion.   As a professional, Jeff has had two top 10 finishes in the NEPGA Championship.  He won the 2001 VPGA Pro-Pro partnered with Pat Mullen from Killington Golf Resort.

About the Course

Tucked away in the mountains of Vermont's Killington ski country, the Town of Killington has crossed into uncharted territory by building an upscale golf course in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.

Green Mountain National Golf Course was designed by Gene Bates and features multiple tee boxes, a grass driving range and is 6,589 yards from the back tees with a par of 71.  The course opened in 1996 and has been a host of the Futures Golf Classic (LPGA Developmental Tour) every year since opening.  Green Mountain National Golf Course was rated as a 4 1/2 star course for places to play recently by Golf Digest.
